Meet the Captain

Captain Frank Godwin of the Sonny Boy
Frank Godwin

 Captain Frank invites you to join him for a day onboard the Sonny Boy.  Happy to start beginners and pleased to work with experts, Frank's goal is to take anyone on a most rewarding day of fishing.  Having grown up around the water, Frank is a veteran of the Atlantic and Caribbean and has developed a sixth sense on how to find fish.  He is still enthusiastic and creative using different combinations to find what it takes to get the fish to bite on a given day.

Captain Frank insists on providing his passengers with only the highest levels of safety and comfort.  He promotes friendly service to help the novice and experienced as well as the physically impaired.

Captain's Log
  • 1948 Born in Miami
  • Guided customers aboard the Sonny Boy I, a 25' Seacraft.
  • Graduated to a 32' Lures, Sonny Boy II, which was run out of Coral Gables for several years.
  • 1975 obtained his current berth at Crandon Park Marina on Key Biscayne for a 38' Bertram, Sonny Boy III
  • 1999 he christened the 46' Bertram Sonny Boy, currently used for charters off the coast of Miami, Bahamas, and the Florida Keys.

  • Piloted boats to distant ports including Barlavento, Cuba; Cabo San Lucas, Mexico; Mobile Bay, Alabama, the Bahamas chain including Bimini, West End, Cat Cay, Chub Cay, Freeport, Walkers Cay, Treasure Cay, Marsh Harbor, Man-o-War Cay, Hole in the Wall Cay, Morgan's Bluff in Andros; Nassau, San Salvador, Cat Island, Staniels Cay in the Exumas and Cape Eluthera; Haiti and the East Coast of the United States from Florida to New York.
  • Appearances in Motor Boating & Sailing, The Miami Herald, and Marlin Magazine as contributing author and subject.
  • Appearance on "Red" Steir's Fishing Show which broadcasts from Marco Island, Florida.
  • First Place in Hemmingway Billfish Tournament, Bimini, Bahamas
  • Second Place in Bimini White Marlin Tournament - TWICE
  • Third Place Anglers Invitational, Chub Cay, Bahamas
  • First Place in Bimini Native Tournament, Junior Division, Bimini, Bahamas
  • First Place in Bertram/Hatteras Shootout, Walkers' Cay
  • PeeWee Lady Angler Award in Metropolitan Dade County Fishing Tournament
  • First Place in Miami Billfish Tournament
